THE news that the Control & Development committee of Bucks County Council has referred the decision on the High Heavens Waste Transfer Facility to the Secretary of State has caused alarm in Booker & Cressex.
I had been led to believe that senior members of Wycombe District Council would leave their county colleagues in no doubt as to the undesirability of this project, and that their voice would prevail.
Sadly it seems that nothing of the kind has occurred, and we now face a further worsening of the already dire traffic congestion around Cressex Road, as well as at the Handy Cross interchange.
In my opinion, there are also serious safety issues with regard to the width of Cressex Road and the interaction between increased HGV traffic in each direction, and pedestrians using the narrow traffic islands to cross the road.
Cyclists will use the route at their peril.
The Secretary of State now faces the choice of returning the matter to Bucks CC for local determination, or to ‘call in’ the decision, which would result in a public enquiry.
In light of this I feel that all concerned residents will wish to see us make every effort to make their voices heard on this issue.
Cllr Simon Parker, Liberal Democrat, Wycombe district councillor for Booker & Cressex
