Evening raised £3,518 for Help for Heroes

I AM writing on behalf of Graham Cross and myself to thank the Bucks Free Press for the publicity you gave for our Help for Heroes event which was held at the Hazlemere Community Centre on March 17.

It was a fantastic evening enjoyed by the 151 guests. We were enthralled by the performances of the Pipes and Drums of the 19th Regiment Royal Artillery who gave us their last weekend to support this event before being deployed to Afghanistan, their playing and performances of Highland Dancing was both moving and memorable.

Their entrance was made to the strains of the Military Wives’ wonderful recording and they were led in by two local flag bearers; Roy and Maureen Rigg which were formally received by co-host Lt. Col. Mark Pullan MBE.

A local girls group ‘The Bombshells’ also gave their time freely and sang many fabulously familiar army type songs from the 40s era while a buffet meal supplied by Sally of Gorgeous Grub was being served. The great music for dancing came from Telstarz, a local band who gave freely of their time for such a worthy cause. What a wonderful evening!

Finally to complete an extremely successful evening we need to thank all the people who donated prizes for a raffle which helped us to achieve the grand total of £3,518 which was given to the Help for Heroes fund.

We were delighted to receive a certificate from the Help For Heroes in recognition of our efforts.
