I’m surprised just 1,700 were caught speeding on Treadaway Hill
10:30am Saturday 30th June 2012 in Your Letters
IN response to the aggrieved motorist caught speeding on Treadaway Hill, Flackwell Heath (Letters, June 15), she must know that Ignorance of the Law (The Highway Code) is no defence. Ultimately, I am really surprised that only 1,700 motorists have been caught speeding on Treadaway Hill.
I would agree that the location of the speed van under the motorway bridge is the wrong place and it should really be placed at the top of the hill.
A recent county council speed monitor at the top of the hill found over 64,000 motorists in a three month period exceeding the speed limit either entering or leaving the residential part of Flackwell Heath. This is over 700 motorists a day. And the majority of these do not slow down when coming into the village.
I would be more than happy with the introduction of speed calming measures in Swains Lane as there would then be no need for a speed camera van on the hill.
