Death of Live and Let Live horrifies me

I NOTE with horror that the Live and Let Live pub in Booker Common is to be transformed into residential properties”, Bucks Free Press (June, 22), despite council chiefs being “powerless to stop it”.

I say with horror as every available space in High Wycombe is being built on.

Even as I write huge machines are levelling the old Harrison’s / De la Rue factory to build yet more houses.

Upwards of 700 people used to be employed there.

Where is the infrastructure to support all these new homes and occupants?

There are very few jobs available, schools are becoming overcrowded and our area has only just been declared drought-free – for how long I wonder?

All very well Mr English, but if the public house is no longer economically viable, how should it be retained? An idea I favour is to force the supermarkets to sell alcohol at pub prices. Unless something is done, the heritage of the local pub will disappear for ever.
