I back Jubilee gripe
11:00am Wednesday 11th July 2012 in Your Letters
I READ with interest last week the comments from Simon Woolf relating to the poor publicity given to Beaconsfield’s Jubilee celebrations and totally agree with his criticism.
I saw and heard of very little publicity and what little was done for this free to enter event was done all too late!
The much used and effective banner across Station Parade and the simple sign board on either end of the A40 approach road would have definitely swelled numbers and one wonders why this was not done? I only got to hear about the event from one of the organisers, I then decided to quiz numerous friends and neighbours, asking if they were going to the Jubilee do at the rugby club? Not one had any idea it was being held!
To make matters worse our near neighbours in the Chalfonts really pushed the boat out and gained national publicity for their efforts.
While St Peter’s beacon burned brightly, sadly – our Beacon in the Field was just a glimmer.
