Floral displays make this a nice place to live

RE: ”Our beautiful gardens are a credit to town”, (Letters, June 29).

I WAS very pleased to read Mr and Mrs Williams’ letter in the BFP about the old library gardens on Queen Victoria Road.

Wycombe District Council, as the owners and designers of the garden, created a special Olympic ring display, using the official colours, and complemented this with a variety of bedding flowers, also in official Olympic colours. With weather permitting the display will be there until autumn.

The council – specifically the Green Spaces Team – has been working hard alongside our contractor, Sodexo, to create a number of interesting and beautiful gardens and bedding plant displays.

We are responsible for the garden next to Pann Mill which is beside The Rye and a number of floral displays.

We also have Olympic colour themed bedding plants in Higginson Park.

The floral displays make the district a nicer place to live and I hope everyone takes the opportunity to appreciate them.

Cllr Steve Lacey, Cabinet Spokesman for Community, Wycombe District Council

The bedding displays in the formal gardens are superb this year both in the old library gardens and in other places. Your mention of Pann Mill may cause confusion to some readers as Pann Mill is itself closely surrounded by beautiful informal gardens maintained by Margaret Simmons for the High Wycombe Society who lease the grounds. It would be nice if the next-door formal gardens to which you refer had a name which reflected the people whose service they commemorate. I have heard them referred to as the Burma Star memorial gardens.
