Thanks UK for nothing

I HAVE every sympathy with Mr Kevin Taylor and his family, in that they will soon be homeless unless Wycombe District Council does something about his pending eviction, once his 30 years’ service with the RAF ends in August this year.

It appears nothing much changes with the treatment of our service personnel. We were in the same situation back in 1975, but in those days the RAF threatened to double our rent on the day of expiry of my service. The local council refused to house us or even put us on a waiting list.

I had to write to our MP who did manage to get us placed on the council housing list but without the chance of a house for two years. The day I went to the local housing authority to give them all my details, I witnessed the keys of a council house being handed over to a lady who needed an interpreter as she didn’t speak English!

Oh, in a way Mr Taylor is luckier than I, at least he will receive a pension. I and many of colleagues in those far off days, despite having served our country for 16 years (including boys’ service), received no pension at all.

Thanks UK for nothing.

Mr Cohen.
Your last blog probably had the most comments that you’ve ever received, most of which raised very valid questions.

Please would you at least have some respect for your readers and respond?

I hadn't seen that - I take it that refers to the blog entitled: 'Can the anonymous defenders of free speech defend what they write too?' (I was too absorbed in ivor.)
