It’s coming up to that time of year, where arguably one of the biggest charity events will be jumping onto our screens soon… Yes! It’s Children In Need, where millions of people up and down the country do their best to raise all the money they can, in order to change the lives of underprivileged young people in the UK. Since being launched in November 1980, the charity has raised over £600 million, which is a tremendous amount that has impacted on so many young people’s lives in the UK, for the better.

The Beaconsfield School are just one of many schools, clubs and businesses up and down the country that work extremely hard in fundraising for the event and do an exceptional job. When it comes to raising money for Children In Need, many people across the school will do anything and everything they can to raise as much money as possible, in hope that it will help change the lives of young people across the UK, this year including sponsored silences, cake sales and a mufti day, where students have to wear an item of pink clothing.

When asking Deputy Head teacher, Mr Campbell, what Children In Need meant to him, he said “It’s about supporting people in poverty” This spirit is felt throughout the school around the time of Children In Need, with groups of students independently raising money for the charity. This year a group of 6 sixth formers are planning various fundraising activities to help children less fortunate than them.

Year 13 Students, Holly Bovil-Read and Hannah Lawrence have planned to ‘Swap’ hair colours to raise as much money as possible for Children In Need as well as other children’s charities. When asked why choosing this type of fundraising activity, Holly, 17, said “Children In Need is a charity close to my heart, so I feel the need to raise as much money as I can.” With the help of Holly, Hannah and other students in different year groups, the school aim to raise as much as possible for Children In Need and other children’s charities. Last year, the school raised £748.65, which was split between 3 Children’s charities close to the school; £389.95 went to Children In Need.
