Footage obtained by the Bucks Free Press shows the chilling moment a man brandishing a crossbow ran through a residential street in High Wycombe yesterday before a policeman was shot.

The suspect was then gunned down by armed police as the wounded officer was rushed to hospital.

The shocking incident unfolded in School Lane in the Downley area of High Wycombe yesterday evening at around 6pm.

Witnesses told this newspaper a dispute between neighbours which started earlier in the week escalated and a man in his 60s was stabbed at a property in the street.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and on arrival, a man with a crossbow could be seen running through the streets towards police.

In footage obtained by the Free Press, this moment is captured on camera showing a white male in light combat shorts and a dark t-shirt jogging while holding the weapon at shoulder height.

An inaudible exchange of shouting can be heard between the man and off-camera police officers before a click can be heard which appears to be the release of the shot from the crossbow.

The alarming incident led to a lockdown of neighbourhood with a large scale police presence involving forensics and specially trained officers.

In the early hours of this morning, Thames Valley Police released a statement to the Free Press.

The force confirmed a 54-year-old man has been shot down by police and had been taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries. The same 54-year-old has been arrested for attempted murder.

A man in his 60s who was stabbed remains in hospital while the police officer who was shot with a crossbow was treated and discharged.
