Work is underway to transform a unit on Marlow High Street into a new Italian restaurant ahead of an opening date next week.

The Individual Restaurants group first announced plans to transform The Marlow Bar and Grill, at 92-94 on the High Street, into a new branch of the popular Italian chain Piccolino in March.

They revealed earlier this month that its opening date, previously slated for July, had been moved up to the end of May, and work to refurbish the interiors and exteriors of the site has been moving at a breakneck pace ever since.

Photos taken last week show workmen busy renovating the site's interiors - with its seating and cooking facilities well under the hammer as the countdown begins to next Monday, May 20.

The group also submitted plans to Buckinghamshire Council proposing the installation of new illuminated and non-illuminated signage and awning for the Grade-II listed building on Wednesday, May 15.

A spokesperson for the company - which also operated The Marlow Bar and Grill before its recent closure - said the signage would replace that of the popular bar and grill on a "like-for-like basis".

If all goes to plan, Piccolino will open next week with new features including a brass and marble-topped bar area and a "winterised secret garden".

The newest addition to Marlow’s vast culinary scene has already grown a following thanks to the reliably tasty and high-quality Italian fare at its 19 existing venues in the UK.

Its latest venture into Bucks will arrive just in time for the sunny weather, with a menu ranging from Fassona beef sourced from Northwest Italy and pasta dishes prepared at the table with giant pecorino wheels sure to attract the attention of foodies in the area.

Classic Italian cocktails in the ‘secret garden’, which will host DJ nights on selected evenings throughout the year, are also sure to be a hit, as will a curated fine wines menu by the restaurant’s speciality onsite sommelier.

Speaking earlier this month, Andrew Garton, CEO of Individual Restaurants, said: “We’re thrilled to announce the grand opening of Piccolino in Marlow, bringing authentic Italian cuisine and charming hospitality to the community. Piccolino replaces what was formerly Marlow Bar & Grill in what we hope will be a welcome change for our loyal guests.

“Here to mark a new era of Italian dining in Marlow, Piccolino promises to become the most sought-after dining destination for those seeking a taste of Italy.

“Our dedication to sourcing the best ingredients and celebrating Italy’s diverse cuisine is the heart and soul of Piccolino. We look forward to guiding diners on an unforgettable journey through Italian flavours, tradition and culinary excellence.”
