Library customers with outstanding fines can get their record wiped clean during a temporary amnesty.
Buckinghamshire Council announced an amnesty for library fines for a limited time only to help residents feeling the brunt of the cost of living crisis.
During January and February in the new year, the Council- run libraries across the county are taking part in the initiative.
Bucks Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure Clive Harriss said: "From the pandemic to the cost of living pressures, residents have faced enormous challenges in the last few years. To help with these challenges, we have decided to offer an amnesty for all Buckinghamshire Libraries' fines.”
How the library fines amnesty works
In January and February, library users can ask a member of library staff to clear all historic fines on their account.
Items returned late during the amnesty months won’t accrue any fines either, Buckinghamshire Council revealed.
However, anyone still with books and other items should return them to the libraries, Mr Harriss urged.
“This will allow other library users to have access to those items,” he continued.
"If you are unsure when you need to return your loan items, then sign up for Library ELF to get free email alerts when an item is due for return. This will help you avoid incurring any new fines."
