Trying to get GP appointments in Buckinghamshire is "practically impossible" as residents share their frustrations on social media.

However, the body that oversees Buckinghamshire GP practices says that it is their 'priority' for all residents to have equal access to getting a doctor's appointment.

In a recent post on Facebook, we asked how easy the public find it to see a GP face-to-face.

Malcolm Keep said: "Extremely difficult to get a GP appointment, or a scan, or a physio appointment, or a Chronic Pain Clinic appointment.

"Surgery receptionist sounds like she can't wait to get you off the phone. I'm afraid that in my experience the NHS is not fit for purpose (it literally pains me to say it).

"I feel somewhat cheated that I've paid tax and National Insurance for about 50 years during which time I have very rarely been to the doctors yet now are unable to get any issues addressed, and it's difficult to even talk to a doctor.

"I have given up and am paying to go private - where ironically I could well see an NHS physician doing part-time private work."

Don Morley said: "I had to wait 3 weeks for a phone appointment."

Gillian Hutton said: "They were bad enough before the Pandemic. But now it is a nightmare."

The latest NHS Digital data shows the GP practices in Buckinghamshire where patients are most likely to wait longer than two weeks for an appointment.

A total of 272,684 appointments took place at GP practices in the former NHS Buckinghamshire CCG area in October.

NHS Digital figures show 47,031 (17 per cent) of these had taken place more than a fortnight after being booked, and of those, 10,804 (4%) saw patients wait longer than 28 days.

Some Facebook users were quick to defend the GP surgeries under the pressure they have been faced with.

Stuart Maddox said: "No problem - Cross Keys. Always had a return call within 36hrs - usually same day. And face to face made if needed quickly."

Beverly Jayne said; "Absolutely brilliant. Phone up at 8am get an appointment same day."

Jacqui Coker added: "Riverside Surgery has been amazing and continues to give a great service."

Denise Macklin praised Cressex Surgery as "amazing, very friendly staff and helpful."

A spokesperson for the Buckinghamshire Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board (BOB ICB), which provide health and care services to residents in Buckinghamshire, said: "Equality of access to primary care services for all residents is a priority for BOB ICB and we will be working directly with GP practices to support this over the coming months."
