A learner driver who was caught drug driving after he “borrowed” his father’s car has been fined and banned from driving.

At a hearing at Wycombe Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday) Anas Belhora, aged 21, pleaded guilty to charges of drug driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance in Aylesbury.

The court heard how on December 28 last year, Belhora, who is from Luton, was pulled over by police in Slapton Road when they could “smell cannabis” coming from his car.

After conducting a test, officers found traces of cannabis in Belhora’s blood.

The defendant, who only has a provisional licence, had “borrowed” his father’s VW Golf for the trip.

Belhora’s solicitor, Caroline Snodgrass, told the court that her client accepted that he should not have been on the road that day.

Ms Snodgrass said: “He’s been very candid with me and accepts he shouldn’t have been driving that day.

"He’d ‘borrowed’ his dad’s car, which resulted in their own discussions. He accepts he was not driving as he should be."

The court also heard how Belhora, a waste operative, had not committed any previous sentences.

Sentencing, the magistrates gave Belhora a one-year driving ban, issued him with a £506 fine and ordered him to pay £136 costs.
