Chesham United’s club shop must be one of the most unique in the English football pyramid.

The Generals, who play their home games at The Meadow along with Buckinghamshire rivals Aylesbury United, boast what has been dubbed as a ‘Supporter’s Shop’ by local historian Giles Stevenson due to the distinctive items being sold.

Speaking exclusively to the Bucks Free Press, Giles said: “We originally started off by doing merchandise for Chesham fans such as scarfs, hats, home/away shirts, baseball caps, and pin badges to name a few, but after a while, people started to bring in programmes.

“We have a good clientele that visit us on a regular basis, and then they tell their friends to come down and a lot of hoppers love the programmes.

“We have around 5,000 programmes and before today’s game (Aylesbury United vs Aylesbury on July 22), I spent about 10 hours putting all these league programmes in alphabetical order.

“People collect this stuff and we’ve had a lot of groundhoppers come along to purchase items.”

Giles continued: “We’ve even got incredibly old items such as a framed photo of when Chesham played in the Amateur Cup final at Wembley in 1968, and people will donate what they don’t want football-wise as people will buy this stuff.”

In August 2021, the club's chairman Peter Brown said: "A big thank you to Giles and all the supporters that have donated old Chesham United programmes to his research.

"I know Giles is still on the lookout for more programmes so if you have any that you no longer want, he will gladly take them off you, simply drop to the Supporters’ Trust club shop on a matchday and they will be sure to go to a good home."

The club shop is open whenever Chesham United or Aylesbury United play their matches at the stadium.
