The attitude of Wycombe’s players impressed assistant manager Richard Dobson after the Chairboys defeated Northampton Town in the Carabao Cup first round.
A predominantly young squad along with a few season pros took to the Sixfields pitch and helped Wanderers progress to the second round of the competition, after they beat the League Two side 2-1 thanks to goals from Joe Jacobson and D’Mani Mellor.

Despite being two goals up, Wanderers conceded a penalty in the final 15 minutes of the tie which was expertly converted by striker Louis Appere, but the Adams Park side held on to get into the hat for the second round.
Dobson said: “I was interested in the reaction to our boys.
Who was your man of the match this evening for Wycombe?

“A lot of them haven’t been tested yet and you’re looking at it with 15 minutes to go with five stoppage and this is a big 20 minutes now, but we did really well.
“We grew, we played the end game in their half and actually I don’t remember them having a chance of any note after scoring.
“I am delighted with the attitude of the squad after we conceded and that shows a maturity that we didn’t get fazed after they scored.”
It’s only the fifth time since 2006 that Wycombe have got passed the first round of the competition.
