Wycombe Wanderers striker Tjay De Barr has shared his thoughts on his side’s 2-1 victory over Northampton Town in the League Cup first round.
The Gibraltarian international started the tie at Sixfields Stadium on August 9, and assisted D’Mani Mellor’s first goal for the club, with a terrific backheel to find the former Manchester United forward.
His set up came in what was his first start for Wanderers since joining the club last summer.
Explaining his assist, he told the Free Press: “I made the run hoping that Daryl was going to give me the ball, but I then saw the defender coming across, so I knew he was going to follow me.
“I then then thought the best option was to flick it to D’Mani and make the defender follow me.
“I’m really glad too that he got his first goal.
On the match, he added: “It’s brilliant to be in the second round and it was a tough game.
“You have to give credit to Northampton because they were very good as they came at us, but I’m really happy with the win, especially after the last game at Bolton.”
The 22-year-old also revealed that his debut campaign with the club was ‘tough’ due to several injury problems.
He only played eight times for the Chairboys before being loaned out to Non League Eastleigh.
The build-up play by Wycombe for the second goal was fantastic. Horgan gets the ball in the centre of the park, he finds De Barr who produces the cheekiest backheel to Mellor, who took one touch and buried it. What a goal! #NTFC #Chairboys

However, his time at the South Coast club was cut short after four matches due to a serious injury.
De Barr continued: “Personally, it is good to be getting minutes.
“I had a very tough season last year with injuries, but now I’m happy to be getting minutes.
“Played 60 today [August 9], played 20 on Saturday and played 60 against Worthing and I want to play well for the team.”
