Wycombe Wanderers winger Daryl Horgan has revealed that he wasn’t ‘happy’ with his goal return last season and hopes to add more to his name this campaign.

The 30-year-old has only bagged two strikes for the Chairboys since moving to the club in September 2020, with his goals coming against Brentford in the League Cup in 2020, and Morecambe in the league last October.

Despite this, he is one of the main players in Gareth Ainsworth’s squad as he has started 56 of the 87 games he has played for the club.

Speaking to the press, the Republic of Ireland international said: “I wasn’t happy with my goal return last season, and I would love to score my goals.

“Don’t think any other player on the planet would say anything different but the aim is promotion and surpass what people think we’re going to do.

“Everyone (at the club) plays their part and we’ve got a lot of really good and intelligent young lads in that dressing room.”

The winger also insisted that regardless of Wanderers’ good home record against Shrewsbury Town in the league, who are the Chairboys' next opponents on August 13, decent records versus opponents  ‘don’t really matter.’

The Shropshire side have played 14 league matches at Adams Park and are yet to register their inaugural win in the competition at the home of the Chairboys.

Their only success at the stadium came in a Football League Trophy match in October 2008, which they won 7-0.

Grant Holt scored five that day which included three goals in six second-half minutes.

Horgan continued: “Those games are gone and done.

“Last season, we drew 0-0 with them at home when we should have probably won but we didn’t.

“People can talk about records against certain teams, but they don’t really matter as it’s all about the 90 minutes on Saturday and we need to be on it.”
