Wycombe Wanderers fell to a second consecutive league defeat as they lost 2-1 at home to Shrewsbury Town.

Going into the match, the Shropshire side had only won five times this calendar year and hadn't scored in a league fixture since Easter Monday.

And with the Chairboys having a superior home record against the Shrews prior to today's match (15 games, seven wins, seven draws and one defeat*), from how the game was going, it looked like the impressive run was going to continue.

Jack Grimmer on his 100th appearance for the club, saw his close-range header get tipped onto the crossbar by Marko Marosi on 17 minutes.

Lewis Wing then had a pop from 30-yards which was again thwarted by the keeper as Wanderers continued to dominate the game, as Garath McCleary and Jordan Obita also tried their luck from range.

Marosi was on hand to then deny Daryl Horgan's cross/shot from sneaking in just before the break, as Wycombe looked dominant despite being goalless.

But they didn't need to wait long to get their goal as McCleary's long-range shot bounced beyond a static Marosi on 51 minutes to give Wanderers the lead.

It was his first of the season and out of the 16 goals he has scored for the club, 11 of them have been at Adams Park.

However, this gave Shrewsbury a spring in their step as they equalised just five minutes later through a Matthew Pennington header that looped past Tyla Dickinson.

It was the Shrews’ first league goal of the campaign, and their first in the division since Easter Monday.

They then won the match with three minutes remaining through a Luke Leahy penalty, after Joe Jacobson was judged to have brought down Tom Bayliss.

Two league defeats in a row now for Wycombe, as they drop to 18th.
