Wycombe Wanderers lost for the second game in a row as they fell to a 3-0 away defeat at Stevenage in the Football League Trophy.

The Chairboys fell a goal behind inside four minutes through Danny Rose’s brilliant strike on his left foot.

The shot flew past goalkeeper Tyla Dickinson who was motionless as the former Northampton Town man scored his third goal of the season, which was his first since the middle of August.

Stevenage continued to boss the game and could have been out of sight by the half-hour mark, but Jake Taylor fired wide after being put clean through before Alex Gilbey’s first-time shot was saved by Dickinson.

Wycombe began to improve in the latter stages of the first period as they managed to muster six attempts in the final 10 minutes.

Sam Vokes’ shot was brilliantly saved by Aaron Chapman, Daryl Horgan fired wide, whilst Chris Forino saw one header blocked off the line before Jack Wakley saw his header just miss the target.

The game was effectively inside the first 10 minutes of the second half, as Rose got his second of the game.

He managed to get onto the end of a Kane Smith to nod the ball past Dickinson to record his fourth goal of the campaign.

Jasper Pattenden nearly pulled one back but his bending effort was headed over, whilst Ali Al-Hamadi headed wide, which was as good as it got for the Chairboys in the second half.

Terence Vancooten then got Stevenage’s third with a close-range finish with 10 minutes remaining.

It has his first professional club goal in what was his 150th club career appearance.

In order to progress to the next round, Wycombe will need to defeat Peterborough United in their final group game in October.

That match will be played at Adams Park.
