Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth has admitted that his side are ‘depleted’ but they will ‘give it their best’ when they take on Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

The match will take place on what is the boss’ 10th anniversary in charge of the club, in which he has won 206 games from his 526 matches.

Going into the fixture against the Owls, the Chairboys are still without key players such as Curtis Thompson and Brandon Hanlan, whilst Josh Scowen missed last week’s match against Derby County with a knock.

Sullay Kaikai, Sam Vokes, and Ryan Tafazolli have recently returned from long absences, but D’Mani Mellor and Tjay de Barr are still missing, whilst Garath McCleary is serving the final game of his league suspension, following his straight red card at Fleetwood Town on September 3.

Wycombe have not won any of their four visits at Hillsborough, losing two and drawing two.

Speaking ahead of their fixture in Yorkshire, Ainsworth said: “There’s a good mood in and around camp despite all the injuries that we have.

“All I’m hoping is that people understand that we’re depleted but we will give it a real good go.

“Sheffield Wednesday will be up there without a doubt and Darren Moore knows how to get out of League One.

“He is a great manager and a great man.

“We will be at our best on Saturday to try and the points.

“The 10 years will happen regardless, but the result is very important as we will only play Sheffield Wednesday once away from home this season and we need to try and get back with something.”

The game will kick off at 3pm.
