Goals from Garath McCleary, Sam Vokes and Anis Mehmeti saw Wycombe Wanderers come back from behind to beat Peterborough United 3-1 at Adams Park

The home side started the half quick out of the traps as Vokes’ header was easily gathered by Lucas Bergstrom, before Lewis Wing had his shot blocked inside five minutes.

Peterborough responded with Harrison Burrows producing a stinging shot, but Max Stryjek brilliantly saved his effort.

The opening period petered out before a moment of brilliance by Burrows gave the visitors the lead on 22 minutes.

Vokes was caught in possession in the middle of the park and this allowed Grant McCann’s men to counterattack.

Burrows took a handful of touches to steady himself before unleashing a terrific long-range screamer that flew past Stryjek to the Posh the lead.

It was his second of the season and his second in two games.

Stryjek was in action again as he pushed away a Nathan Thompson shot, and even though Joel Randall hit the post for Peterborough, it was Wanderers who got the next goal of the contest.

Right on the stroke of half-time, McCleary scored a close-range header to make it 1-1 with his second of the campaign.

It was also his first strike in two months.

The second period was a drab affair with Anis Mehmeti firing over after being put through one-on-one.

Then, in peculiar circumstances, Wanderers took the lead through Vokes’ second of the season.

After referee Charles Breakspear blocked Jordan Obita’s long-range shot, the initial drop ball found Nick Freeman who did brilliantly to weave in and out of the box to find the Welsh striker, who couldn’t miss as he tapped in from three yards out.

A frantic end to the game saw both sides push for another, but Mehmeti wrapped up the win in the final seconds with his sixth of the campaign.

The result means Wycombe have beaten Peterborough for the first time in four years, as they move up into 12th.
