Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth has revealed that ‘one or two’ players could join the club before this month’s transfer window comes to an end.

The Chairboys are yet to sign any new faces this January, whilst forward players in Connor Parsons, Ali Al-Hamadi and Daryl Horgan have all left the Adams Park outfit.

Sullay Kaikai, who has only featured in 24 league matches for Wanderers since joining in July 2021, is also expected to depart this month.

So when asked if Wycombe could be dipping into the transfer market after his side’s 2-0 victory over Oxford United on January 24, Ainsworth said: “Only for the right price for the right player - I will never put this club in jeopardy.

“I could be that manager that could ask for an extra £1,000 a week for a player, but I know where this club was all those years ago.

“I scrimped, saved, and did other jobs because we had nothing at one stage.

“I would not want to put Wycombe back there and Rob [Couhig], has been superb with me in that aspect.

“I would never take advantage of someone by saying this could work or that could work.

“We work really well together so if we do bring someone in, it will be the right person at the right price."

In terms of more departures, Ainsworth added: “There could be one or two that could be going out, as there are a couple of boys who are on the fringes that need some games.

“I’ve got about 23 players that I can rotate with, and I am really happy with where the squad is at the moment.

“We may bring in one or two, but don’t hold your breath as this is Wycombe Wanderers.”

Last January, Wycombe signed Lewis Wing and Jack Young from Middlesbrough and Newcastle United respectively.
