Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth has revealed that Anis Mehmeti ‘cannot be replaced’ following his move to Bristol City.

The Chairboys signed two players during the January Transfer Window in goalkeeper Harvey Cartwright, and winger Chem Campbell on loan from Hull City and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively.

Campbell, who has played six times in the Premier League, is thought to be a like-for-like deputy for the outgoing Mehmeti, but Ainsworth insists that both players will bring something different to the club.

He said: “You can’t replace a player like Anis.

“It’s just like you can’t replace Adebayo Akinfenwa, David Stockdale, Matt Bloomfield…it’s impossible to replace a player like-for-like.

“With Chem Campbell coming in, he is his own player and one thing we do at Wycombe is that we allow people to be themselves.

“What he will give us to the table will be different from what Anis did.

"I believe he will be a problem for defences, he has a lot of potential and you don’t play in the Premier League if you’re not good enough.

“He’s taking everything in his stride, we hope to get him out of his shell and show everyone what he can do.”

On Mehmeti’s skillset that will be on show in the Championship, Ainsworth added: “I really hope that people don’t try and change Anis, and I am sure Nigel Pearson will know what he has got.

“He is a more experienced manager than me and has managed at the top level, so I am sure that this will be a great move for Anis.

"We will have a huge interest in seeing his development as the seasons go by.”
