Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth has provided a message to all of the club’s fans that are planning to attend this weekend’s home fixture against Derby County.

The Rams have sold out the Adams Park away end for what is the first meeting between the two clubs at the stadium with supporters being present.

The previous encounter in South Buckinghamshire was during the third coronavirus lockdown in February 2021, which ended in a controversial 2-1 victory for Derby in the Championship.

At the end of that season, Wycombe were relegated from the division whilst their counterparts avoided the drop by a single point.

However, after it was revealed that the Rams had breached numerous financial fair play rules, an acrimonious civil case between Wycombe and Derby soon followed (click here to read more about the case).

So with visiting fans coming in full force to the county this weekend, Ainsworth has reiterated that Wanderers' supporters can play their part in the team's on-field success.

He said: “We could have easily given Derby the extra seats as we did against Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town, but we declined as we want the Wycombe fans to come to Adams Park and get behind us and create a brilliant atmosphere.

“Derby will be in numbers and will make a lot of noise, as away fans always do when they come here.

“But we need our fans to match that.

“It could be your first game or your 2,000th – whatever it is, please get behind the boys.

“We have 4,000 to 5,000 here per game home and they are just brilliant.

“They get behind us, they sing and they are humble as they know where this club once was.

“But we took over 20,000 to Wembley last year for the final against Sunderland, and we want you back.

“We need that Wembley lot back to join the fans that come here because we need as many people as we can to help our push back to the Championship.

“We will get back to the Championship one day, and when it happens, I want the fans who were behind us in League One to celebrate watching their club from this town in that league.

“This is a huge game, and our aim is to fill the stadium as much as we can.

“It will be a slow burner I’m sure, but when teams like Derby County come to town, it will help us no end.

“We’ve seen how a rocking Adams Park can really help the team, as the fans really play a part in what we’re trying to achieve.”

The match at Adams Park will kick-off at 3pm.
