Wycombe Wanderers boss Matt Bloomfield has thanked the 400-plus travelling fans that attended his first game in charge of the club.

The 39-year-old’s inaugural match at the helm ended in a 2-0 loss away at Shrewsbury Town on February 25, with a Jordan Willis own goal and a Rekeil Pyke settling the outcome in Shropshire.

He said: “I just wanted to say thanks to all the supporters of the football club who came out today and got behind us.

“They gave us the warmest of welcomes, but I would like to assure them that I am here to do a job and I will not rest until I think that job is done to the best of what we think is right.

“We’ve got a really exciting month coming up and this is a time to really look forward to.”

On the Shrewsbury defending, he added: “I thought Shrewsbury played really well and defended really solidly.

“They have got several defenders who have played hundreds of games between them.

“They are strong and physical so as soon as they got that first goal, they showed their defensive qualities.”

It is the first time since records began that Shrewsbury have beaten Wycombe twice in the league within the same season.
