It’s that time of year when all the clichés are heard.

‘Every point is vital’, ‘we need to take one game at a time’, ‘this is a real six-pointer’, 'every game is a cup final', and so on.

And even though we’ve heard it all before, we love dishing out the same old phrases when the club you're associated with is pushing for success.

And with Wycombe taking on promotion-pushing Ipswich on April 7, this Good Friday fixture against two Championship-chasing teams will no doubt get people talking.

Here is everything you need to know for Ipswich Town vs Wycombe Wanderers.

Background and current form on Ipswich

Currently sitting in third place, the Tractor Boys are hoping to end their four-year stay in League One this season.

Since their relegation from the Championship in 2019, they have had three underwhelming seasons in the third tier, finishing 11th twice and ninth.

However, under the guidance of Kiernan McKenna, whose first game in charge was against Wycombe in December 2021, the Suffolk side has been a real force in League One this campaign – losing just four league games since July.

That is the lowest number of defeats any team has suffered in the division, and the fourth best out of every team in the 92.

Only Burnley (two), Arsenal (three), and Newcastle United (three) have lost fewer games.

There is also an extra incentive for Town to try and get the points over Wanderers on April 7, as they could finish the day top of the table.

Both Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth Argyle currently occupy the top two, however, if both sides drop points in their respective matches against Oxford United and Morecambe on the same day, Ipswich will leapfrog from third to first.

They are also unbeaten in their last 11 matches which includes keeping eight consecutive clean sheets and winning the last seven.

Background and current form on Wanderers

Last week’s 2-2 draw against Milton Keynes in the Buckinghamshire derby did feel as if the Chairboys had dropped two points in their hunt to secure a top-six place.

It was the second week in a row that Wycombe had drawn, but things have been positive for the club in the last week.

Joe Jacobson, Josh Scowen, David Wheeler, and Jack Grimmer have all signed new deals with the Chairboys to remain at Adams Park until the end of next season.

Manager Matt Bloomfield has also confirmed that ‘one or two more announcements’ are to be expected soon.

On the pitch, they are travelling to a stadium where they have yet to register a single goal in their two previous visits.

The first encounter between the clubs at Portman Road ended 0-0 in November 2019, which saw Joe Jacobson miss a penalty for the Chairboys.

The second encounter was just over two years later in December 2021, which saw James Norwood get the winner.
