Wycombe Wanderers ended a run of five league games without a win with a brilliant and entertaining 3-2 victory over newly-promoted Leyton Orient at Adams Park.

The Chairboys nearly took the lead inside the opening 30 seconds when Harry Boyes’ shot went wide of Sam Howes’ goal, before Killian Phillips smashed his shot over 10 minutes later.

Wycombe grew into the contest and eventually took the lead on 17 minutes through an unlikely source.

Luke Leahy’s cross was expertly met by Joe Low via a stretching volley for his first goal for the club.

It was also Wycombe’s first league strike of the season.

Wanderers continued to dominate and nearly doubled their lead on 20 minutes when Leahy’s free from 40-yards just missed the target.

The attacks continued to come as Dale Taylor put through Phillips but the on-loan Palace man was brilliantly denied by Howes.

However, the Chairboys’ failure to take their chances haunted them as Ruel Sotiriou equalised with a well-taken strike just after the half-hour mark.

That too was the East London side’s first league goal of the campaign.

The second period was played at an incredible tempo which resulted in the visitors going down to 10 men inside the opening five minutes.

Taylor was once again proving to be a menace and after being put through by Josh Scowen, he was cynically pulled back by Dan Happe.

Referee Thomas Parsons had no option but to show the red card.

Wanderers were now in the ascendency and eventually regained the lead through Low once more.

Another Leahy cross was met by the Welshman who scored via a diving header.

Despite being a man and a goal down, Orient didn’t give in as they nearly equalised through George Moncur, Theo Archibald, and Sotiriou but they were all denied expertly by Stryjek.

Orient kept on throwing the kitchen sink but this left them exposed, so it was no shock when Taylor scored his first goal for the club inside the six-yard box by being completely unmarked.

But the drama wasn’t over as 120 seconds later, a mistake from Stryjek allowed Sotiriou to get his second of the game.

Wycombe got all three points in an incredibly entertaining contest at Adams Park, as Wanderers move up to 17th.
