Wycombe’s League One campaign resumes after a two-week break for international football when they host Blackpool at Adams Park on Saturday, September 16.

It is a mark of the club’s progress in the EFL that they were forced to postpone last week’s scheduled home game against Cambridge United because they had four players called up by their respective countries.

Josh Low (Wales), Tjay De Barr (Gibraltar), Killian Phillips (Ireland) and Dale Taylor (Northern Ireland) were all chosen for international duty, although the latter had to withdraw through injury.

It is hoped they will all be back in the Chairboys squad for the Blackpool game, along with the latest signing Kieran Sadlier, a goal scoring midfielder who has played at Championship level.

Blackpool’s last visit came in January 2020 when two early goals by Nick Freeman and Alex Samuel earned Wanderers the points in a 2-1 win.

However, that was only the second time the Seasiders had lost in 12 visits to Adams Park where they have won five and drawn five.

Overall, the clubs have faced each other 25 times with seven wins each and eleven games ending all square.

Wycombe are unbeaten in the last seven meetings.

Blackpool were relegated from the Championship last season after two campaigns in the EFL’s top division and they had one memorable season in the Premier League in 2010/11, their first appearance in the topflight for almost forty years.

This season they are just one point behind Wycombe in the League One table, and they boast one of the best defensive records in the division.

They are managed by Neil Critchley, one of the most highly qualified coaches in Europe, who had a spell as assistant manager at Aston Villa when Steven Gerrard was in charge.

He was also manager of Queens Park Rangers before being replaced by former Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth in February this year.

Going up against such an experienced coach as Critchley is all part of the learning curve for Blues boss Matt Bloomfield, and a win would be a massive boost of confidence for him and his players.
