Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield believes starting with a front three is a tactic he’ll continue to use during the season.

The Chairboys defeated Blackpool 2-0 at Adams Park with Sam Vokes, Brandon Hanlan and Garath McCleary leading the line in attack.

The move worked as Vokes and Hanlan both got on the scoresheet to register their first goals of the season, whilst McCleary chalked up another assist to add to his two strikes so far this campaign.

The result was also Wanderers’ third win in a row as they made it five unbeaten in League One as they moved up to eighth in the table.

Speaking on the performance, Bloomfield said: " Today was the product of the hard work we have put in over the last two weeks.

“I was nervous going into the game as I wanted the boys to get the rewards for what they’ve done in that time, so I’m very happy.

“I’m so happy that Sam Vokes got his goal today as he was excellent when we didn’t have the ball.

“On Brandon, there has been a lot of noise around him in recent weeks but he’s trained so hard and when he’s on his game, he’s unplayable.

“His goal came from some magic work by Garath who still has a spring in his step.

“We wanted it today and we hit them early on the front foot.”

“They deserved it.”

Away from the attacking plaudits, Bloomfield was also impressed with the performance of goalkeeper, Max Stryjek.

The Polish shot-stopper produced three fantastic saves to keep Wanderers’ third clean sheet in tactic, and their first in a home victory since April.

The manager continued: “He was fantastic.

“If one of those goes in at 2-0 in the final 10 minutes then it’s a different game.

“We know Max is a brilliant shot-stopper as we’ve seen that in the time we’ve been here, but they did have chances so we’ll look at how we let them happen and try and improve on that.

“Evolution is never easy and during my tenure so far, there have been times when things have looked messy and clunky, but my staff and team are keen and driven to take things on and deliver and I hope that this is the style we can play in moving forward.

“When we lost those first two games, there was a lot of noise but we really believed in the group that we put together.

“We made that clear to boys and sometimes, the tough times make you more solid.

“Our run is down to work hard and marrying up the good bits in the review meetings to the things you want to learn, and making sure you want that desire for continual improvement as we judged on winning and losing.”

Finally, on the fans chanting his name at full-time, he concluded: “I was very touched by the supporters singing my name at the end there – they’ve supported me during my time as a player here and it’s great to hear them getting behind us.”
