Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt has admitted that the club’s poor record against Wycombe Wanderers ‘bugs’ him, ahead of their visit to Adams Park on Tuesday evening.

The Trotters have only beaten the Chairboys on one occasion in six attempts, with Matt Bloomfield’s side keeping five clean sheets in that time.

This run includes two doubles over the former Premier League team during the 2019/20 and 2021/22 seasons respectively.

The Greater Manchester side did secure their first three points over Wycombe in August 2022, when they won 3-0 which were their first goals against Wanderers in any capacity.

However, they are goalless in three separate visits to Adams Park, and Evatt wants to change that.

He told the Bolton News: “It bugs me because I think we are better than that, and the two games I have played there we have lost 1-0.

“I feel like we were more than in the game and deserved something.

“It was two completely different teams.

“The first year we had a bit of an injury crisis, but we lost MJ (Williams) after about 20 minutes with a dislocated shoulder but still stayed in the game.

“Lost to a cross and a header in the end.

“Last season it was that set play goal, we could and should have scored before it.

“We know what is coming, we know we must find ways to get results in this type of game if we want to achieve our ambitions this season.

“Also, the ownership group living down there means that this fixture means the world to them, naturally more than other away fixtures.

“So, we want to do our best to get this monkey off our back and get some points.”

Bolton are currently fourth in the League One table on 23 points, whilst Wycombe sit eighth on 20.
