Wycombe Wanderers will be without Josh Scowen for this weekend’s derby trip to Oxford United.

The 30-year-old, who has featured in 16 competitive games for the club this season, scoring once, picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign in Tuesday night’s 4-2 home defeat to Bolton Wanderers.

He received his caution just before the break in the loss.

This could mean David Wheeler, who scored his 100th career goal in the loss versus the Trotters, may start alongside Freddie Potts in the centre of the park at the Kassam on Saturday.

The Chairboys will also be without Joe Jacobson, Jason McCarthy and Jack Grimmer for the derby, whilst Tjay De Barr could return to the squad after missing the last two games through illness.

Bloomfield said: “He has been a huge player for this club in the three seasons he has been back here.

“He has been a top player in this league and in the league above for a long time and he’s a huge asset for us.

“He has been leading the team in JJ’s absence and although he leads in a different way, he leads with performance rather than being vocal.

“He’ll no doubt be a big miss against Oxford, but these things happen.

“With the way Josh plays the game, it’s no surprise to anyone that he may get the odd suspension here or there, so you must plan for those situations.

“When a door closes for one player, it opens another door for another player.

“I’m looking forward to it as they are a very good opponent to face.”
