A former Wycombe Wanderers goalkeeper had a game to remember as they scored and saved a penalty in their team’s recent league fixture.

Charlie Horlock, who was on the Chairboys’ books between 2013 and 2015 but failed to make a senior appearance, managed to register his first score for the Non League Hitchin Town, as they defeated Halesowen Town 3-1 in the Southern Premier Division.

A regular drop kick on 13 minutes from the one-time Wanderer flew towards the opposite box, bounced over his fellow number one in Daniel Platt, and into the back of the net.

Horlock, who is also club captain, couldn’t believe his luck as his teammates congratulated the shot-stopper on his fortuitous strike to put the Hertfordshire-based team a goal up.

Then, in the dying embers of the match with the score thinly poised at 2-1, Halesowen were awarded a penalty, which the ex-Wycombe keeper would go onto save.

From the resulting spot-kick, Hitchin would go down and score to wrap up what was their second victory in a week.

Taking to X (formally known as Twitter), Horlock said: “One for the memories!

“Scoring a goal and saving a last minute penalty, it’ll never happen to me again!

“I’ll shut up about it now

“Thank you again for all the messages!”

Horlock was an unused substitute in Wycombe’s three play-off fixtures during the 2014/15 season against Plymouth Argyle (twice) and Southend United respectively.

He has also had spells at Stevenage, Eastbourne Borough, and now Hitchin.
