Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has described his side’s performance in the 2-1 home loss against Reading as ‘very poor’.

The Chairboys fell to a sixth-straight league game without a victory whilst the Royals, who remain bottom of the League One table, secured their first league win on the road in over 12 months.

The visitors took the lead on the half-hour mark through Sam Smith’s fourth goal in as many games, following some very questionable defending by the Wanderers backline.

Wycombe responded almost instantly through a fantastic strike by Killian Phillips, which was his first goal at Adams Park since his move from Crystal Palace.

However, on the stroke of half-time, Lewis Wing’s deflected shot off Ryan Tafazolli gave the ex-Premier League club all three points – their first away league triumph since November 12, 2022.

Bloomfield said: "I was disappointed in the quality of our play, how we conceded both goals, and I usually say how proud I am of the performance but not today [November 25].

“We didn’t perform in the manner that I wanted us to do as we were poor.

"Very poor.

"You’re not going to win games in the manner of how we conceded.

“But saying that, we hit the post, we had a one-on-one opportunity taken away from us as Lyle Taylor is at least two/three yards onside.

“I need to be balanced in what I say as yes, we weren’t good enough but Wingy [Lewis Wing’s] goal takes a massive deflection, and their first goal took the slightest of touches off Sam Smith.

“I was pleased with the way we worked our goal as Killian’s strike was something we worked on in training, and it’s great to see something like that come off.

“But football is based on what happens at both ends and ultimately, the defending wasn’t good.”

"We need to be a lot better for when we go to Barnsley on Tuesday night.”

The match on November 28 will start at 7.45pm.
