Wycombe Wanderers right back Jack Grimmer has described his side’s FA Cup exit to Morecambe as ‘horrendous’, whilst admitting that recent performances have been ‘unrecognisable’.

The Chairboys were eliminated from the competition by the League Two side following a 2-0 defeat at Adams Park, which stretched their poor run to just two victories in 10 games in all competitions.

Goals from Eli King and Tom Bloxham made it a comfortable afternoon for the North West side, as Wanderers lacked any real threat going forward, mustering up just two shots on target.

Boos were then heard at full-time following the defeat.

Speaking to the club’s media team at full-time, the ex-Coventry City and Fulham defender said: “We heard the boos near the end and what can you say?

“It [the performance] was horrendous, to be honest.

“The gaffer in his pre-match talk asked for cohesion, intensity and energy and it was one of the shortest team talks you can have but we had none of that.

“I said it to the boys directly in the changing room, and I hold myself included as I’m a senior player with a handful here, but there was no energy.

“We’re letting the gaffer down, we’re letting the fans down and we need to turn it around.

“We’ve not been at the standards that we have been earlier on in the season, where he performed well at Peterborough and Oxford where we played well.

“We may not have won but we played well.

“In recent weeks, we have been unrecognisable.

“We still had a good enough team today and we’re not one to use excuses.

“We shouldn’t be shying away from putting a good performance in.

“Since I’ve been at the club, we have built a team that has been on being on the front foot, having energy and togetherness that I’ve never seen at another club.

“But in recent weeks, I feel like we’ve lost that and with that, the performances and results haven’t been good enough.

“Thank God we have a game on Tuesday night because if you have to sit on the back of that for a week, it won’t be good.

“The fans, rightly, were disgruntled after that and we can be the only ones to change things.”

Up next for the Chairboys is the Fulham U21s in the EFL Trophy on December 5 at Adams Park, before hosting Shrewsbury Town at home four days later.
