We want to strengthen slightly more if we can, so we’re still looking.

Wycombe Wanderers boss Matt Bloomfield has hinted he doesn’t plan on signing any defensive players this transfer window, unless the ‘right opportunity comes’.

This follows the departures of left-wing back Harry Boyes and centre defender Richard Keogh this month, with the latter returning to his parent club Sheffield United, whilst the former has been released.

Boyes has subsequently signed for League One rivals Fleetwood Town on loan until the end of the season, whilst Keogh had his contract terminated by mutual consent after he wasn’t guaranteed enough playing time until now through the end of the season.

The Chairboys’ backline currently consists of Ryan Tafazolli, Joe Low, Chris Forino, Jack Grimmer, Joe Jacobson, Jason McCarthy, Kane Vincent-Young, Jasper Pattenden and Luke Leahy.

When asked if he plans on signing a defensive-minded player, he said: “I don’t think so.

“We’ve got plenty of bodies there at the moment, but if the right opportunity comes then we’ll look at it.

“At this moment in time, I’m pleased with the cover we’ve got at the back.

“If the right opportunity presents itself, we will look at it.

Some movement at Adams Park this month has also seen young defender Declan Skrua join Non League Ebbsfleet United on a 28-day loan.

The move is to help the 21-year-old get first-team experience, with Bloomfield having hopes that the ex-Chelsea and Reading youth team player can potentially play in the first team.

Skrua has played three times for Wanderers this season.

Bloomfield said: “Declan has gone out on loan to Ebbsfleet and the idea with that is so he can get loads of games under his belt.

“If he stays there until the end of the season, then great, but if we suffer injuries and he’s playing regularly, then we’ll have the opportunity to recall him.

“We want Declan to develop for his career but for us and as the loan is for 28 days, we can bring him back if we wish.”
