Wycombe Wanderers head coach Tom Hounsell is expecting a difficult afternoon when his side travel to AFC Wimbledon this weekend, despite the Dons' struggles in front of goal this season.

The Chairboys head to Plough Lane looking to build on a four-point haul from their last two matches, which include a 2-0 win over Notts County and 2-2 draw with high-flying Cambridge.

However, with the latter, the Adams Park team were leading 2-0 at the Abbey Stadium with 12 minutes to go, before conceding twice late on.

Hounsell believes his side can still take plenty of confidence from the performance.

He said: “Of course, we were disappointed with how the game ended, but we also realised that we performed really well.

“We all would have liked to have finished the game slightly differently, but we're really aware, energised and excited for the weekend.

“We know if we can go and get a win, then we'd have had a really good week.”

Wycombe travel to a Wimbledon side sitting 16th in the table, one place below the Chairboys in 15th.

The Dons have scored just seven league goals this season, the joint-fewest in the division, while Wanderers have conceded 22, the second highest.

However, Hounsell insists the statistics will count for little when the two sides meet.

He said: “We know what we're going to get from Wimbledon.

“They've been pretty consistent across seasons in this division and we know it's going to be difficult.

“Of course they'll be looking for a reaction, I'm sure, so we don't think it will be easy, that's for sure.”

The Wycombe boss singled out striker Jayden Stockley as a key threat.

He added: “He's performing really well and is a real threat in the box.

“His movement is a real strength and we've seen that across this season.”

Around 1,000 Wanderers supporters are expected to make the trip to south London.

Hounsell praised the travelling fans after Tuesday's draw at Cambridge and hopes his side can give them more to cheer about.

“I thought the fans were outstanding,” he said.

“The noise throughout the whole game gave us real energy and momentum.

“Hopefully we can put in another solid away performance and give them something to cheer about again.”

Since Wimbledon's reformation as AFC Wimbledon in 2002, there have been 19 matches between the two teams.

The Dons have tasted victory on nine occasions, Wanderers four, with there being six draws.

Last season, the fixture at Plough Lane in September saw the Chairboys lose 2-1 in what was Michael Duff's first defeat as Wycombe boss.

The return fixture at the start of January saw Wycombe win 2-0 at Adams Park, with Junior Quitirna and Niall Huggins scoring.
