AFTER up to five years of study, students on the Fine Art degree at Buckinghamshire Chiltern University College are graduating, and putting on a show of their work.

The 18 students, some of whom have studied full time over three years, or part time over five, are showing their diverse styles of work.

Including abstract and figurative painting, as well as printing, sculpture, installation and photography, all students have used a wide range of materials to create individual and high quality work.

Chris Bowles, who uses cardboard to create large colourful mixed media works based on celebrities, comments: "I have had a fantastic time during the past three years. My art work has improved immensely and I am very excited as to what the future holds."

Sculptor Graham Hall adds: "After the initial self-doubts of putting your work in a public space, your confidence grows and this allows you to immerse yourself in the process of becoming an artist."

This year's show is the eighth since BCUC launched its BA Hons Fine Art degree in 1997.

Among other graduating students is abstract painter Carol Drofiak, who took her inspiration from her surroundings. She says: "I have been excited by the development of the new Eden shopping complex and have drawn inspiration for my paintings from the emergence of these fantastic architectural structures that have changed the High Wycombe skyline. I hope to capture the essence and spirit of this new modern age."

Other work on show includes figurative oil paintings by Christie Painter, of figures and landscapes by Clare Galvin and Jo Earl, photographs mounted on to foam board by Humera Saeed, Lisa Snowsell's mono-print with oil varnish on canvas, and sculptural pieces using latex, photographs and found objects, by Lauren Callaghan.

Some graduates have gained places on prestigious MA courses.

The Fine Art Degree Show opens on Sat, June 9 from 10am to 2pm. It runs from Mon, June 11 to Thurs, June 14 from 10am to 6pm at the Department of Fine Art, Octagon Court, Octagon Parade, High Wycombe. Details: 01494 465031
