AMERSHAM Band has beaten strong competition to win a place in the finals of the National Brass Band Championship.

They took third place against 15 competing bands in the fourth section London and Southern Counties Regional competition, winning the Jim Hobbs Memorial trophy, and a coveted place in the National finals at Harrogate in September.

The Band now faces the challenge of the final play-off against winners from across the country, including Yorkshire’s Dinnington Colliery Band, stars of the TV series ‘A Band for Britain’.

Band chairman Fred Harrison said: “This is a great achievement by the band, and we are all proud of our success.”

He attributes their win to “the inspiration and dedication of our new musical director Paul Fisher, and the hard work, skill and sheer determination of everybody in the band. Paul said we could do it. And we did it”.

The band has played an integral and historic role in the communities of Amersham and the surrounding district for well over a century, and is always pleased to welcome newcomers to the main or the associated training bands.

The band is also available to hire as a whole, or as groups for smaller events.

For information about hiring the band, or if you are interested in joining the main or training bands, contact band secretary Rod Stevens on 01494 775344 or visit the band website at www.amershamband.co.uk.
