THE Spartans are coming home to High Wycombe after making it to the finals of the MMG Buckinghamshire Battle of the Bands.

The four-piece band, who hail from Wycombe, made it through to the final which was held at the Sno!Bar in Milton Keynes.

They were formed in 2007 and their music is described as “dirty indie rock with crunchy guitars” which makes “you want to get up and dance.”

Judged by Cris of Talkin Headz drum shop, Steve of BBZ Guitars, Steve of Black Frog Studios, Dan of the Sno!Bar And Ryan Majchrowski of the Majick Music Group The Spartans came fourth.

Lead singer and guitarist, Tony Goff, said: “It was amazing. Our fans were incredible as usual.

“We have such a loyal fan base and they travelled 45 minutes to come and watch us. The results for us were a bit disappointing but we had the most moving crowd.”

Goff, who lives off London Road, grew up in High Wycombe and studied ICT at the Flackwell Heath campus which is part of the Amersham and Wycombe College, which has actually helped him promote the band.

The 22-year-old said he has loved music since he was 13. He added: “We were all best of mates at school and shared inspiration as a group.”

He said the competition has lead to more gigs and him taking the decision to make his job as a barman, gardener and a music teacher part time.

The band, which has Andre Sinclair on drums, Jackson Stockbridge on guitar and bassist Dayne Hector George, are currently recording their first EP called Reborn which will be available to buy in the shops and online later this year.

On July 4 they are performing at AMF Bowling at the Eden Centre followed by a gig at Nags Head in London Road on July 16.

Goff added: “We always feel comfortable at the Nags. There are lots of people we coming down.

“I can't get enough of performing. I love every minute of it.”
