A woman from West Wycombe will be running her fourth marathon at the end of the month for the Rennie Grove Hospice, this time in memory of her late father, who died from cancer last year, only six weeks after realising there was anything wrong.

Amy Martin, 30, talks about her previous experience and why this year is different: “I entered my first marathon, Edinburgh 2013, when I was recovering from a broken leg which was the result of a skiing accident.

“Just over a year after having my leg pinned I completed this marathon in addition to The RideLondon 100 Mile bike ride and Chester Marathon. In 2014 I went on to complete Edinburgh Marathon for a second time, knocking 40 minutes off my time. For these events Previously I raised money for Cancer Research UK.”

Amy’s father died from cancer last year, only six weeks after realising there was anything wrong. She reflects how this time, running in memory of her father, feels very different: “ Every time I look down at my vest when I'm running now and see the name of the charity I remember why I¹m running and it certainly is much more emotive than taking part in previous runs, even though they were also incredible.

“The London Marathon is an event I have always wanted to take part in and watching it on TV for many years is what got me into long distance running. Running it this year in memory of my Dad makes it even more special. I just wish he was here to celebrate with me.”

Amy has pledged to raise £3,000 for Rennie Grove Hospice because they enabled her father to spend the last few days of his life at home with family and friends.

To help reach her target ,Amy is hosting a fundraising gig at the George and Dragon Hotel and Pub in West Wycombe on Saturday night where she promises “an evening of delicious food and fine music from four amazingly talented local musicians Ant Barnes, Maz Manzini, Alex Kew and Stephen Button”. There will also be an auction and you can book a table in advance.
