THIS year's Wycombe Swan pantomime does not disappoint with slapstick comedy, upbeat songs and of course a baddie for the kids to boo played by Eastenders hard man, Steve McFadden.

Peter Pan is the Swan's panto choice this year and not only sees McFadden reprise his role as Captain Hook but also children’s TV favourite Tracy Beaker star Dani Harmer as Peter Pan and former Hollyoaks actress, Dominique Jackson, as Tiger Lily.

Most of the comedy comes from Matt Slack as Smee who has the children and adults laughing alike at the not so subtle jokes, which of course is what panto is all about.

As well as singing and dancing to popular songs Peter Pan flew above the stage much to the awe of many of the audience and added an extra lift to the show.

McFadden as Captain Hook was a far cry from his Eastenders cockney character, Phil Mitchell and was almost unrecognisable as he was plastered in thick make-up and extravagant costume.

He played up to his role perfectly and the kids loved to boo him when he came on stage. To my surprise he even sang.

Harmer embraced her part as gutsy Peter Pan and Jackson sang with ease.

The juveniles in the show were from The Jackie Palmer Stage School and deserve a special mention for their enthusiasm and they did not miss a note throughout the show. The Street Dancers from the Wycombe Youth Dance Project added a modern twist to the tale.

As I was leaving I heard an older man ask when he could come again. This really is an enjoyable show and one worth seeing.

Peter Pan is at the Wycombe Swan until January 9. Tickets range from £17 to £25. Call 01494512000 or book online www.wycombeswan.co.uk
