A 19-year-old DJ nominated at the Brits has revealed his father had to explain how prestigious the music awards are.
British-Norwegian producer Alan Walker is up for best British single at the Brits on Wednesday for hit track Faded.
Alan, who was born in Northampton but moved to Norway aged two, said being nominated was “absolutely crazy”.
He added: “To see the names on that list, it’s really outstanding, I was never expecting to see myself on such a list.
“I guess I’m actually the first half-British, half-Norwegian person who is nominated. It is the beginning of something big.”
Asked how he reacted to the news, the producer said: “It was more my dad, he is the one who has been looking at the Brits throughout the years.”
“When I first told him about it he was like, ‘no way’.
“He was really, really excited about it … I didn’t really have the proper understanding of the Brits at the time when the announcement was made.”
Alan also explained why he chooses to wear a mask over the lower part of his face in public, adding that he will “probably” wear it to the Brits.
“The whole mask thing is about unity … it sends a message that ‘you are not alone’ and I think that’s a really important message to put out because there’s so many people now these days that feel like they are alone.”
Speaking about his fellow nominees, including Calvin Harris, ex-One Direction member Zayn Malik and Little Mix, Alan said: “I’m definitely looking forward to meeting everyone.”
He added that he would “love” to collaborate with Calvin Harris or Coldplay.
On the Scottish DJ, he said: “I’ve been a big fan of his for quite a few years and I think it would be a really cool combination.
“What he’s been able to accomplish through the years, it’s quite remarkable and truly inspiring.”
