OPEN Mic night at O'Neill's in High Wycombe is a great opportunity to listen to unsung musical talent in the area.

Starting at 9pm at the pub in Pauls Row the chilled out acoustic session gives residents the chance to showcase their talent.

The evening pulls in a wide crowd of people looking for something a bit different and the first musician on-stage last night was a very talented woman playing an acoustic guitar.

The music provides the perfect backdrop to a quiet meal which offers a grill night on a Thursday.

The Irish themed pub is committed to sourcing key ingredients directly from Ireland.

For starters my friend and I tried grilled prawns with mayonnaise dip and garlic bread topped with melted Irish cheddar which were both lovely and tasted really fresh.

For main courses I tried the 8oz Irish Sirloin Steak served with Colcannon, tomato, mushrooms a vegetable fritter and peas.

The steaks are sourced from Ireland and are matured for 21 days making it a very tender and tasty cut.

Colcannon, which is mashed potato with cabbage and spring onion, was a nice change from the usual chips and was really flavoursome. My friend sampled the BBQ chicken breast, topped with Irish cheddar, bacon and BBQ sauce which went down a treat.

Overall the atmosphere on open mic night is really chilled and relaxed and the perfect place to hear new music while enjoying some good pub grub. For more information go to www.oneills.co.uk/oneillshighwycombe.
