POLICE in Manchester have ruled out any links between the theft of anti-tank mines from a freight train and the discovery of ‘military equipment’ at Booker Common.
News of both incidents broke yesterday (see related links), but a spokesman for the North West Counter Terrorism Unit has today told the Bucks Free Press they are “completely unconnected”.
Meanwhile, Thames Valley Police will still not release any further details about the military equipment found buried in a woodland off Horns Lane in Booker.
Forensics and armed officers were spotted at the scene yesterday morning, but Supt Barry Halliday has said this afternoon: “The item that we found was not dangerous and did not need to be made safe.
“I would again like to stress that we do not believe that the equipment that has been found at Booker Common is related to any type of terrorist activity.
“Police will continue to investigate how the equipment ended up at Booker Common.”
When asked on Twitter about what was found, Wycombe police chief Gilbert Houalla said: "Investigations are in progress, hence will not speculate. Any new developments will be made public in due time."
