THIS very popular play seems to be the choice of many of the local groups. This is my first but I have two more to see in the next few months.
Chesham Theatre Company offered a superb and sensitive rendition of this delightful play. Extremely well directed by Stephanie Pemberton the audience is taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions as the story unfolds.
For those who do not know the play it tells of a group of W.I. ladies one of whom has a husband John dying from Leukaemia.
The subject of the usual calendar the W.I produces of pictures of Yorkshire comes up and when John dies the ladies want to buy a couch in his name for the local hospital.
Against a great deal of opposition they decide to do a naked calendar but tastefully produced.
With much humour and considerable sadness we see the trials they have to face and the success they achieve in doing so.
There are the usual personality clashes but the characters grow as the action progresses and in the end they become better people. This was a superb evening’s entertainment and of the excellent standard we have come to expect of the Chesham Theatre Company.
