PRIMARY schools across the UK are taking part in an awareness campaign to give teachers a set of resources to help children if they suffer a bereavement.
Child Bereavement UK (formerly the Child Bereavement Charity) in Saunderton said one in 29 children is bereaved of a parent or sibling and that 92 per cent will experience a significant bereavement before the age of 16.
The campaign called ‘Elephant’s Tea Party’ has been developed by the charity and will provide creative exercises, lesson plans and fun activities.
It will give school staff the resources to help pupils explore the subject of bereavement in an age-appropriate way, ending with an optional tea party fundraising event for all to enjoy.
