WRITTEN by Tim Firth, who also wrote the popular Calendar Girls this was superbly directed by Ros Thomas. Amersham Playgoers Theatre Group offered an amusing alternative to the usual Christmas pantomime.
This is the story of a school Nativity play, acted by adults in the roles as children and they made a brilliant job of it. Their mannerisms and facial expression reminded those of us who have had children just how badly behaved and irritating but gloriously amusing they can be.
There was the bossy child, the manipulative girl I am sure every teacher hopes never to have, the menacing one who will obviously grow up to be a bully. The action was accompanied by songs using the tunes of carols but with their own words with hilarious results.
In the final scene the adults get to, play the parents and the audience is made aware that the children had emulated the actions of the parents complete with the bad language which was not in any way upsetting but added to the humour. It is easy to see why this group has won many awards in the past for their productions.
It provided a salutary lesson for parents everywhere, and an enjoyable evening’s entertainment.
