CHESHAM Theatre Company stages three one act plays centred round the village of Bassett under Stigwood and the goings on of the people who lived there.

The first was entitled The Jumble Sale, well directed by Judith Watsham it was an hilarious and very true to life depiction of the way people behave at a jumble sale There were the usual characters who can be identified in any village, the bossy one, the timid easily bullied one and the rather hapless vicar, together with a very confident lady who was the leader of the village drama group. With a strong cast and some funny lines it made for great entertainment.

The second play was a Melodrama, Black Bartram’s Revenge, from the Treadeagle Players the village drama group was ably directed by Trevor Pilling it had all the elements of comedy and disasters when members of the village endeavour to stage a play. The costumes for this one were particularly fetching.

Not an easy one to direct because it was a play within a play and the confident village director was admirable with her obvious despair of her actors and her facial expressions alone sent the audience into fits of laughter.

The third, The Wedding Reception concluded the evening with a superb D.J. and the usual bickering between the ladies who were arranging the wedding meal. A pregnant bride and a missing groom added to the mirth. The set of the ship was particularly clever. The lighting was impressive and the sound effects superb.

The evening was in the form of a supper theatre with tables set out and the audience bringing their own drinks, food and nibbles. This made for a very friendly atmosphere and the audience were quick with their approval and laughter. It was a very pleasant way to spend a cold and wet evening, well worth braving the weather for.
