FIREFIGHTERS swapped their hoses for helmets this weekend as they embarked on a 180-mile cycle ride for charity.

Staff and friends from Amersham Fire Station set out on Saturday aiming to complete a lap of all 20 fire stations in Bucks and Milton Keynes.

Steve Pettit and Neil Hosier organised the event raise money for Megan McLaughlin, a five-year-old from Watford who suffers from spina bifida.

Neil said: "When I heard about Megan I decided I had to do something to help her, and that’s when I sat down with Steve and we started to plan this epic challenge."

The team braved rain and hailstorms yesterday to visit Chesham, Great Missenden, Aylesbury, Haddenham, Princes Risborough, Stokenchurch, Marlow, High Wycombe, Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross.

And their journey finishes today as they called in on the remainder of the 20 stations operated by Bucks Fire and Rescue.
