THE Chesham Theatre Company chose to stage this very funny play in the beautiful grounds of The Bury in Chesham as an open air production.
It was a lovely sunny day on Sunday and what could be better than watching a play about cricket.
Written by Richard Harris it tells of a cricket team’s match against the British Railways Maintenance Division.
The audience gets to see the matrimonial problems encountered by the cricket team, and the way Roger the captain treats his long suffering wife Miriam.
The laughs came thick and fast as this very witty play unfolds. Dennis refuses to take his wife’s yearning to move to a new house and she sets fire to his car.
There is the usual glamour and competition between the wives which adds to the overall effect.
Amongst all the intrigue and mishaps just as the team are starting to win it starts to rain and the match is called off. Directed by Paul Eckersall, with a superb set, excellent sounds effects and some strong characters there are four more performances, Thursday, Friday and two shows on Saturday.
I do hope the weather holds out for them and if you want a good laugh there should still be a few tickets available.
